Who We Are
Founded in 1910 for the employees of the world-famous Marconi Wireless & Telegraph Company, we have a rich history in Chelmsford. After outgrowing its former building in Victoria Road, The Marconi Club made the move to its present location on Beehive Lane in 1964.
The original entrance has now been renamed “Tydemans”, with the caretaker's cottage being redeveloped into flats. During 2011 – 2012 the site was fully redeveloped with the new centre opening its doors for the 1st time on the 5th November 2012.
February 2017 saw major changes, BAE Systems (owners of the site) sold the building to a private owner. The Marconi name could not be retained, and Hamptons Sports and Leisure became the new name for the centre.
